A jubilant crowd of
supporters of a former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, breached
the airport perimeter fence at Kano airport as he arrived from a brief
detention in Abuja.
Last week Mr. Lamido and two of his sons were ordered detained by a high court judge over allegations that he stole billions from his state coffers during his 8-year tenure.
The judge at a Kano high court had ordered the governor detained for two months a pronouncement that rattled the governor so much that that he asked the judge: "You mean, I 'll be going to prison"?
However, reprieve came the way of the governor when another high court in Abuja granted him bail.
The Lamidos arrived Kano today for the first after he was sent to jail last week. His supporters defied airport security to welcome him
